Understanding Women Body Shape Types

Knowing your body shape isn’t just a tidbit of information; it’s a fashion game-changer that opens the door to a world of styling possibilities. It helps you understand which cuts, fabrics, and styles will flatter you the most, taking the guesswork out of shopping and outfit planning. So, let’s unlock your full fashion potential by diving into the specifics of each body shape this tool can identify!

  1. Rectangle: If you’re a rectangle, your bust, waist, and hip measurements are relatively similar. You might feel like your body lacks distinct curves, and you have a more athletic build. You’ve got a straight-up-and-down figure, which is fantastic for certain styles like shift dresses or any other garments that hang from the shoulder. A lot of runway models have this shape, which is great for high fashion. To add some curves, you can focus on cinching the waist with belts or wearing tops that add volume to the chest and shoulders.
  2. Inverted Triangle: As an inverted triangle, your upper body is broader than your lower body. Your shoulders or bust are the most prominent feature. While you might feel top-heavy, this shape is great for showing off assets like a full bust or strong shoulders. Flowy skirts and fitted trousers can help balance out the lower body, bringing a harmonious proportion. V-necklines and wrap tops can also help narrow down the upper body visually.
  3. Pear or Triangle: If you’re more of a triangle or pear shape, your hips are the widest part of your body, and your waist and bust are narrower. You’ll find that A-line skirts and fit-and-flare dresses work like a charm for you. These shapes add volume to your upper body and bring attention to your waist, balancing out your proportions. Dark-colored bottoms and light-colored tops can also add a balanced contrast.
  4. Hourglass: If you’re an hourglass, your bust and hips are roughly equal in size and you have a well-defined waist. Your body is already quite balanced, so you have a wide range of clothing options. Tailored, fitted clothing tends to look great because it accentuates your natural curves. Wrap dresses, belted coats, and skirts that hug your hips are all great choices. Basically, anything that draws attention to your waist will make your shape shine even more.
  5. Oval or Apple: For apple shapes, you carry more weight around your midsection, with a bust that is wider than the hips, but with relatively slim legs and arms. Empire waist dresses and long, flowing tops that skim over your midsection can be especially flattering. Structured jackets can also help create the illusion of a more defined waist, and you can rock shorter skirts to show off your legs.
  6. Round: If you’re round-shaped, both your bust and hips are wider, but your waist is less defined. Think of your body as having soft, rounded curves. Vertical lines and long V-necks can help elongate your torso. Straight-cut or slightly flared pants can also be a good choice to elongate the legs. The key is to create vertical lines to lengthen your body and to wear clothes that add structure.
